Fireboy DML Receives Awards From Boomplay For Massive Streams

The year 2020 has been a great one for YBNL Artist Fireboy DML who returned with his sophomore album, Apollo. For context, Apollo is the Greek god of the music and the arts. With an unprecedented successful debut, perhaps Fireboy DML began to see himself as some sort of music god and this influenced how he approached this album. The 17 track album featured guest verses from Olamide, Wande Coal, and American rapper D Smoke.

Fireboy DML’s reign is just beginning and it’s been an incredible journey so far. His hit song Jealous took him from obscurity to nationwide fame and he followed that up with more singles and a critically acclaimed album that further cemented his place in the mainstream sector. Boomplay has supported and bared witness to Fireboy DML’s growth over the years and it gave us great pleasure to present to him plaques acknowledging his success on the platform.

Mr Dele Kadiri, the General manager of Boomplay Nigeria along with other music execs paid a courtesy visit to Fireboy DML and presented to him 2 plaques, a 10 million plaque for his debut album Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps and a 2 million plaque for his single Scatter, off the same album. “I won’t be here without you guys” said Fireboy when he received the plaques “I want to thank you guys for what you do for the culture. I’m grateful to Boomplay and its users who have made this possible”. Fireboy’s sophomore album, Apollo, has already surpassed 10 million streams on Boomplay.

Fireboy DML joins the likes of Davido and Tope Alabi, who have also received streaming plaques/awards from Boomplay. As the leading music platform in Africa, Boomplay’s core objective remains being intentional about supporting African artists and offering its users an exquisite listening experience.
